Can people snowboard or ski on the same mountain/slope?

I was wondering because my dad and bro want to ski, but I want to take on snowboarding. We are all newbies! Of course we will be separated when we take our learning lessons, but can we all share the same slope when we are ready to ski/snowboard? I'd hate to be separated then :(
