Should the Electoral College be abolished?

Those who advocate electing the President and Vice President on the basis of popular vote say that the election should be determined by the expression of all of the people speaking as one national unit. Those who favor the Electoral College point out that we are a union of states, and that the vote should be made by states. The manner in which electoral votes are allocated also favors the smaller states, and, in effect, forces the presidential candidates to pay attention to them. If you favor the abolition of the Electoral College, do you think that a plurality should be sufficient to elect, or, if no one received a majority, would you require a run-off between the top two finishers?
