Good uses for old clothes?

I work in a small resale shop in a small town. We get SO Much stuff, that we end up throwing away a lot of the 'less desirables'. We do give to the 2 nearby (within 100 miles of us) shelters but even they don't take stuff after awhile. Is there something better I could do with these old clothes other than throw them out? I'm originally from a big city and know that there's so many people out there who could use them, just not around here. Maybe a place we could send them to COD? I saw a neat idea to quilt with old fabrics, but unfortunately I'm not a big crafty type.
